February and March in the Scottish Highlands never fails to surprise and amaze – it is the heart of winter, yet much of the wildlife is at its most visible and vocal.
Displaying Golden Eagles fill the skies, fold back their wings and soar through the glens in an ancient breeding ritual designed to attract maximum attention and with it a suitable mate.
In the Caledonian pine forest, Red Squirrels engage in their delightful courtship, chasing each other round and round stands of ancient Scots pines in a breathtaking exhibition of treetop agility.
And as if to lift spirits even further, Anagach Wood is filled with the first song of the Crested Tit and Scottish Crossbill , teasing us to get a glimpse of one of the Cairngorms' most sought-after species and the only endemic Scottish bird.
