Munlochy Bay is a magnet for a wide range of both resident and overwintering wildfowl and waders. At any one time, Greylag Goose, Teal, Mallard, Wigeon, Grey Heron, Shellduck, Redshank, Curlew and Oystercatcher may be seen feeding either in the bay or grazing in the surrounding pasture.
This area of the Black Isle is also notable for Red Kite who are seen almost daily rising on thermals. The best place for viewing all of this activity is the low-key Munlochy Bay Observation Hut - 1 mile from the entrance sign into Munlochy on the A832 towards Avoch.
The hide is in a small pull-in on the right hand side. Please note that a telescope is required to provide adequate views of the bay and that wildfowlers shoot by permit in the bay every Monday, Thursday and Saturday between 1st September and 20th February.
