The Grant Arms Hotel
The Bird Watching and Wildlife Club has recently taken over and extensively refurbished the magnificent 55 bedroom Grant Arms Hotel in Grantown-on-Spey in the Cairngorms National Park. Former visitors include Queen Victoria and the present Queen.
With high quality ensuite rooms including a four poster honeymoon suite and wonderful food the Grant Arms is a great place to stay. But it’s more than that. From the moment you walk into the Hotel you start to begin to notice the difference. That isn’t canned music coming over the sound system. It’s bird song. That isn’t Sky News on the screens in Reception, in the Bar and Lounge. It’s news about local birding and wildlife.
By Reception there is a door marked ‘Club Room’. Take it and walk down the corridor and you’ll find yourself in an information centre and bookshop. Through the swing doors there is a natural history library and 80 seat lecture theatre.
In short this is a hotel for birders. “There are Golf Hotels why not Birding Hotels?” says Toby Virgo the full time Programme Director. “Our job is to ensure everyone gets the most out of their holiday. For those who want to go off each day by themselves we will tell them what’s around, where to go and the best time to see it. For those who want escorted trips we will provide advice on the many and varied trips available.”
On arrival Guests will find the Club’s monthly Newspaper “The Watcher” in their bedroom together with Maps, Guides and Birding Magazines. Toby’s team not only help with advice and guidance they also lay on free walks, talks and briefings.
Accommodation is in comfortable ensuite rooms with tea and coffee making facilites, colour TV, toiletries, and hairdryer. The hotel’s facilities include The Capercaillie Lounge and Bar, magnificent Restaurant, Club Room, Lecture Theatre and Library.
Grantown-on-Spey is a beautiful little town within the Cairngorms National Park. With the Cairngorms on one side and the Moray Firth on the other, it couldn’t be better sited.
All public rooms are wheelchair friendly and there are disabled rooms available.
"It will exceed your expectations."
